Opportunity for general surgery or integrated vascular surgery resident. UTSW Vascular Department is seeking a post-doctoral clinical research fellow for 1-2 years that will assist in running the investigational device exemption study with Dr. Carlos Timaran.

As a postdoctoral clinical research fellow, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing research projects, develop and implement your own research initiatives, and collaborate with a diverse team of experts in the field. The position aims to provide a platform for residents to deepen their understanding of vascular surgery, clinical research methodologies, and contribute to advances in the field of complex endovascular aortic surgery. Positions are available annually starting July 1.

Position overview:

  • Duration: 1-2 years
  • Eligibility: General surgery residents, integrated vascular surgery residents, or practicing surgeons interested in furthering their career with research
  • Salary: Fully salaried position with health insurance coverage. Dedicated funds are available for attending/presenting at local, regional, national, and international conferences.

Responsibilities:

  • Clinical – Research fellows will participate in planning and execution of complex endovascular aortic repairs through an FDA investigational device exemption.
  • Research – Research fellows will maintain databases that support the IDE study and participate in preparing material to the FDA and IRBs for study approval. Research fellows are also expected to participate in collaborative research studies with the goal of submitting and presenting at local, regional, national, and international conferences as well as publishing their research over the course of their research fellowship.
  • Educational – Research fellows will attend the Division of Vascular Surgery weekly conference. Research fellows are expected to collaborate with fellows, residents, and students on research projects as well as in clinic and the operating room.

Requirements:

  • MD or equivalent degree
  • Completion or anticipated completion of an ACGME accredited General Surgery or Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency in the United States or Canada
  • Strong interest in clinical research and vascular surgery
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
